Emily Palmer: School Director and Treasurer
Emily was born and raised in Mancos. She grew up adventuring in mountains, rivers, desert, and snow. She went on to get a degree in Southwest Studies and Botany from Colorado College. Emily spent most summers leading teenagers on wilderness expeditions through local Deer Hill Expeditions. These summers taught her the value of nature in children’s lives, and the power of education. She went on to school for Massage Therapy in Denver, and used to do massage at the Beehive in Mancos. Now, motherhood has become Emily’s passion and life’s work, mothering Hazel (in Grade One at Dragonfly) and Olivia (in preschool at Dragonfly). Emily loves to be in the mountains, raft down rivers, go on dates with her husband John, and show her girls the wonders of the natural world.
Emily is still very involved and committed to the governance and creation of Dragonfly, wearing many hats at school. Seeing Dragonfly School through to success continues to be a part time job and a passion.

Claudia has had diverse experiences in teaching and life, including two years in a rural school in Costa Rica, and she has worked with children from age 3 through 14 over the years.
After growing up in Cortez, Claudia received a BA in English from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, and an MED from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She lived in Florida, upstate New York, Costa Rica, and for much of her adult life in Woodland Park, CO. She recently returned to the Four Corners area to enjoy semi-retirement, being close to her family, and the splendor of the natural world here in Montezuma County.
